The second edition of the Open Source in Energy Access Symposium (OSEAS) was held June 11-13, 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya

The OSEAS Report

The symposium brought together nearly 150 participants from 19 countries, including coders, planners, policymakers, civil society, and entrepreneurs, united by the belief that Open Source tools and collaboration can accelerate energy access.

The report emphasizes that Open Source drives innovation, transparency, and scalability, reducing R&D costs and enabling data sharing. It highlights the importance of data for planning, financing, and developing off-grid energy markets. The report also addresses challenges such as funding gaps, limited technical capacity, and systemic barriers to the adoption of open-source solutions, while offering recommendations for long-term sustainability, communication strategies, and fostering collaboration between academia, governments, and the private sector.

Thank you to all of the participants, speakers, donors, and organizers who made this event a reality.
